Theatre Royal on Manningham Lane became a picture house in 1921. The Bradford Theatre Royal had been showing films as part of its programming as early as the late 1890s, and in 1921 the auditorium was converted for full-time cinema use. The cinema opened as the Theatre Royal Picture House on the 5th December with a showing of Charlie Chaplin’s film The Idle Class.
